Intern: Communications, Development, and Public Health
The mission of the Association of Farmworker Opportunity Programs (AFOP) is to improve the quality of life for migrant and seasonal farmworkers and their families by providing advocacy for the member organizations that serve them. Our vision is that farmworker families will live and work in a healthy, safe environment; earn a living wage; be treated equally under labor standards laws; have increased access to educational and social opportunities; and be recognized, valued, and respected.
AFOP seeks an intern to assist with communications, development, and our two public health initiatives: the SAFE (Serving America’s Farmworkers Everywhere) Program and Project HOPE (Health and Outreach with Pesticide Education). Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Collecting and reviewing farmworker news articles;
- Writing news articles for AFOP’s Newsline;
- Researching child labor issues;
- Researching funding, foundation, and grant opportunities;
- Providing administrative support for the SAFE Program and Project HOPE.
Qualifications: Interest in and commitment to farmworker issues is essential. The internship is unpaid, but AFOP will provide a daily travel stipend, essential nonprofit experience, and valuable networking opportunities. Part-time and full-time opportunities are available.
To apply for an internship, send cover letter and resume to Jessica Burt at burt@afop.org
