Instructors Informed About New Standards For Manual Handling

The theme of the recent seminar Irish Network Security & Health Trainers (ISHTN) was the development of a training manual handling of new and Supplier Quality Assurance Agreement with FETAC registration. The speakers were Mr. Frank Power, Inspector and Project Manager with HSA (Health & Safety Authority) and Ms. Angela Lambkin, Development Officer, FETAC (Further Education Awards Council)

In detail the reasons for a new standard in the Manual Training Delivery, Power, Mr. Frank pointed out that currently there is lack of consistency in the type of training, skills, training them to produce and the accreditation of training. This happened through the public consultation, which began in 2004 when it was decided to work on developing a new standard. In addition to ongoing consultation with FETAC and the creation of the group of manual handling training counseling after the study showed that 93% felt that training should be standard. Two standards have been completed and submitted to public consultation FETAC.

Provider organizations that currently offer training manual handling and manipulation of people to train instructors will have to start registering for FETAC via the vendor registration process. All training provider organizations will be by the quality of FETAC’s implementation of proposed programs. The two standards are taught manual manipulation of 6, which will be a special price includes a component, and those who manage education level 6, it will be a special price has two components. This means that any manual handling / handlers instructors are required to undergo this training FETAC level 6. There is also a plan for recognition of prior learning (RPL) process to help instructors present to apply for recognition. FETAC registered training providers can apply to be approved by FETAC to offer RPL. Read the rest of this entry »

A Resource For Health And Safety Of Non-professional Health And Safety

As we enter 2011 I thought about how to add value to my blog, and I wore it not for giving advice and information on occupational health and safety. What I mean is that those of you who are organizations that are responsible for aspects of health and safety organization, but are not really experts or have expertise actually undertake this responsibility. Examples would be all human resource professionals in companies that do not have the safety and health of a person getting this role as part of the High Representative, the restaurant owners whose expertise is running the restaurant is not the health and security, small retail owners, whose experience is the guide and recording, senior director of health and safety as VP and controller for small businesses, which has the expertise to manage the company or to manage the economy is the health and safety. These are just some examples I found in my years of health and safety professionals.

So why not devote a blog to help people in these various organizations.

Decision is the easy part, but how do people know it exists and has some value, which is the hardest part. So I will work to spread the word to everyone I know who may find this blog valuable, and if you read this blog, thank you for your help to keep your network of colleagues know. Above all, I’d like your opinion on the information you need and find it valuable in your work in the health and safety.
